An Evening with Matt Helliker
Unfortunately we have had to postpone our Evening with Matt Helliker, so the event will not be taking place next week as planned. We will let you know when we know more about a rescheduled date. Sorry to disappoint, those affected will be contacted.
We are very pleased to invite you to an evening with Matt Helliker at Patagonia Covent Garden. Matt is one of Patagonia's Alpine Ambassadors and one of Britain's most accomplished alpinists. He has made numerous first ascents of hard alpine routes in Alaska and Peru as well as repeats of hard Scottish winter routes up to grade IX. He is no slouch on rock either, having onsighted E7 and redpointed 8b.
In 2011 along with fellow Brit and Patagonia ambassador, Jon Bracey, Matt set off to climb a new line in a pure alpine style on the hugely impressive and intimidating Moonflower Buttress on the north side of Mount Hunter in Alaska. In part this was to honor their late friend Jules Cartwright, who had dreamed of climbing two new routes on the buttress. The first was made with Ian Parnell and remains unrepeated.
Climbing the steepest and coldest section of the buttress Matt and Jon faced exhaustion in an effort to complete the line before the increasingly freezing conditions irrevocably turned against them. The fruits of their efforts eventually resulted in The Cartwright Connection 6000ft, Alaskan grade 6 (M6, AI6, 5.8, A2).
There are just 50 tickets available, priced £10 and sold in Patagonia Covent Garden. They will include free food and drinks, limited access to Patagonia products at 20% off and a free entry into a raffle draw.

On 29th November Patagonia Covent Garden are participating in an evening of late night discount shopping! Along with many other shops and other businesses we are opening our doors til 9pm and offering a 20% discount in store.

Wide Boyz Screening
We are very pleased to be able to present what is possibly the second screening of the multi award-winning film Wide Boyz at Patagonia Covent Garden. The film is about the journey of two Peak District climbers from training on planks nailed to the ceiling of damp Sheffield basements to climbing the hardest wide crack in the world in the wide crack capital of the world, the USA.
The stars of the film Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker will be on hand to present the film and answer any questions you many have. They have just returned from the Kendal Film Festival where Wide Boyz won both the Best Climbing Film award and the People's Choice award, a rare double.
There are just 50 tickets available, priced £10 and sold in Patagonia Covent Garden. They will include free food and drinks, limited access to Patagonia products at 20% off and a free entry into a raffle draw with prizes from their sponsors: Wild Country, Sterling Rope and Rab.

Sew Good Session
Sew Good Session
Last Saturday we hosted a Sew Good session (see below or click here for details) with Traid and had great fun! Three lovely girls came in and helped us and our customers make some fab things out of old unwanted Patagonia jackets.
Old Patagonia hardshell finds a new life as a pack
The girls brought their box of tricks and 4 sewing machines and we spent the day fixing, altering and creating! Here are some photos of things we made in store. Contact us if you would like to come to a Traid Sew Good event and we will hold another one in the near future.

The Storyboard Exhibition
On October 10th Patagonia Covent Garden are excited to host the opening of The Storyboard exhibition. The board in question is a wooden surfboard, built using the 'hollow, skin and frame' technique by James Otter of Otter Surfboards. It is made entirely using timber from a single tree grown in Cornwall. Photographer Mat Arney documented the process from beginning to end with a series of 13 photographs, which are framed in offcuts from the same tree.
The surfboard has been left open, without the deck on, so that a poem telling its story which has been engraved onto its internal ribs can be seen. The creators Mat and James will be on hand to guide you through the exhibition and answer questions from 4pm till 7pm. The Storyboard will be on display at Patagonia Covent Garden over the winter.
